I DIDN’T KNOW
I WAS LEAVING
FOREVER.

The actual living room of Valerie's apartment in Spain

THREE
MONTHS.

VALERIE JONES · AUTHOR OF THE SELFISH YEAR

I'd lived in that beautiful apartment for just three months.

When I left Spain, I expected to be gone for a couple of months. I needed space. I needed clarity. I thought I'd be back.

Then COVID happened, and the borders closed. That unexpected distance gave me the chance to understand what was really happening in my marriage. By the time I could return, I knew I wouldn't.

That experience became the beginning of The Selfish Year, my published memoir about what happens when a woman begins living on her own terms.

“Sometimes you have to make a move before you can see your next one.”

That's one of the lessons I'm bringing to WIDE OPEN. You don't need to know the ending of your story to begin making a different choice.

A little something for the next time you say, “I feel bad.”

The Guilt Audit is a set of journal prompts to help you catch the old rule in action, ask whether you've actually done something wrong, and choose your next move with more clarity.

It lands in your inbox right after the class, as my thank you for spending 75 minutes with me. Keep it somewhere you'll find it, because guilt will come knocking again.
